Cattle diagnostics

Healthy cattle = higher production

Our diagnostic services aid your success, even in critical phases.

respiratory disorders

pathogen testing using PCR on nasal swabs and organ material:

  • BRSV

  • PI-3

  • BHV-1

  • BVD

  • Influenza D

  • Mycoplasma bovis

  • Chlamydia

  • Histophilus somni

  • Bluetongue disease

PCR testing can be carried out on individual samples or on pooled samples, which consist of up to five swabs that will be produced in the laboratory.

bacteriological testing of nasal swabs

  • Pasteurella multocida

  • Mannheimia haemolytica

  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

  • div. other pathogens

parasitological testing

  • larvae migration method to test for lungworm larvae

serological testing (from EDTA, blood or serum)

  • BHV1 antibodies (non-vaccinated animals) - also from individual or bulk tank milk

  • BHV1 gE antibodies (vaccinated animals)

  • BVD antigen (vaccinated animals) - also from ear-punch, individual or bulk-tank samples

  • BVD antibodies - also from individual or bulk-tank samples

  • Bluetongue disease

reproductive disorders

Determination of pathogens using PCR (small abortion material samples of approx. 5g can be submitted) for individual or combination testing for:

  • BHV1, BVD, chlamydia, leptospires, Q-fever, Neospora caninum, Bluetongue disease and Schmallenberg disease

bacteriological testing of cervix swabs, washings and organ samples for:

  • E. coli / enterobacteriaceae, haemolysing cocci

  • T. pyogenes

serological testing (EDTA blood/serum)

  • BHV1 antibodies

  • BVD antigen/antibody

  • chlamydia antibodies

  • Q fever antibodies

  • brucellosis (SLA)

  • leucosis

  • Neospora caninum antibodies

  • Bluetongue disease

  • Schmallenberg disease

All individual tests also possible in combined testing (abort schema).

mastitis testing

automated fluorescence optic cell count determination

bacteriological pathogen cultivation with subsequent differentiation:

  • Streptococcus sp.

  • Staphylococcus sp.

  • E. coli / Enterobacteriaceae

  • Bacillus cereus

  • pyogenes

  • resistance testing with microdilution process

Other pathogens, such as prototheca and yeasts can also be tested. For mycological testing for yeasts, we also recommend the additional testing of final milking.

The extra testing can also include the testing of swabs taken from milking machines and packed raw milk.

PCR determination of Mycoplasma bovis (please send in extra vials).

Diarrhoea pathogens

bacteriological testing of excrement samples and swabs:

  • E. coli

  • Salmonella (typification)

  • Clostridia (typification)

  • Paratuberculosis (Mycobacterium avium ssp paratuberculosis)

  • cultivation/PCR and direct microscopic determination

parasitological testing

with combined sedimentation/flotation method for the determination of parasite eggs:

  • gastrointestinal worms

  • liver flukes

  • tape worms

  • coccidial oocysts (young animals >6 wks)

special excrement testing for calves (also from swabs)

  • bacteriological testing for E.coli, Salmonella and Clostridia

  • Cryptosporidium determination: microscopic testing with, in urgent cases, results available after only 2 hrs of being in laboratory

  • Rota/Corona pathogen determination employing ELISA

further testing

  • bluetongue virus stereotype from EDTA blood (animals for sale)

  • antibodies (ELISA)

  • virus determination (real-time PCR)

  • leucosis antibodies from EDTA blood or serum

  • liver fluke (herd-by-herd diagnosis): fasciolosis antibodies (ELISA from serum, individual samples and bulk-tank samples)

bovine pregnancy test: antigen (ELISA from EDTA blood and serum)
