Analysis of commercial feedstuffs

We can analyze commercial feedstuffs like mixed/compound feed for cattle, swine, foul, horses and other animals for several tests.

Commercial feedstuffs include mixed/compound feed for cattle, swine, foul, horses and other animals. Other feed materials (e.g. soya, rape and other grain-mill products) are also included, regardless of whether they are used as compound feed constituents or fed to animals on their own.

Commercial feedstuffs, especially compound feed can involve complex chemical, biological and physical test and analysis processes. If analyses are not carried out in accordance with official procedures, then procedures set by the Association of German Agricultural Analytic and Research Institutes (VDLUFA) are employed. The most common analyses are listed below:

  • Analyses to determine valuable substances (e.g. nutrients, in-vitro parameters, energy content, minerals, etc.)
  • Analyses to determine trace substances (e.g. trace nutrients, vitamins, amino acids, growth promoters, antioxidants, enzymes, etc.)
  • Analyses to determine forbidden substances (e.g. dioxins, heavy metals, chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), herbicides, mycotoxins, etc.)
  • Microscopic analyses (e.g. constituents, clearance certificates, purity, animal residues, unwanted substances, etc.)
  • Molecular biological analyses (e.g. genetic modification, animal residues, micro-organisms, etc.)
  • Microbiological analyses (e.g. hygiene status, decay indication, etc.
